Chancery quarto, printed primarily in double columns. Leaf a3r: 40 lines to a full column; area of text: 151 x 117 mm.; col. width: 57 mm. Printed initial on leaf a2r; initial spaces elsewhere. With signatures; without foliation or catchwords. Large woodcut title illustration (135 x 95 mm.) of two scholars: one, wearing a turban and holding in his right hand a stick from which depends a geometric figure, looks out a second-story window whose edge is covered by a fringed cloth and with his left hand indicates a banderole which reads: ALTIOR IN CVBVIT ANIMe SVB IMAGINE MVNDI; the other sits in a walled garden at a desk before which lies a rabbit(?), holding in his left hand a pair of compasses and in his right a prism(?) onto which a ray of sunlight falls. Beyond the garden wall is a hilly landscape with a town; the sun shines from the upper right corner of the illustration. Cf. Sander 5998, 3219.
