Overview and metadata sections

James Lambdin Henderson, a Germantown, Philadelphia native, was a member of the Philadelphia literary circles and a friend of Lewis and Sophia Mumford, Hilda Doolittle, and members of the Powys family of Welsh writers. Henderson was also a friend of Ezra Pound, although there are no materials from Pound in this collection.

A note from the donor, a grandson of Henderson, describes him as "characterized by consuming curiosity, a wide range of interests, exceptional intelligence, a photo-graphic memory, a real talent for writing and ability to teach and get along with young people…[and] a man of great promise."

This collection consists of correspondence of James Lambdin Henderson. Correspondents include Hilda Doolittle, Mathilda Germann, Dorothy C. Loch, Lewis Mumford, Sophia Wittenberg Mumford, Phyllis Playter, John Cowper Powys, Llewellyn Powys, Marian Powys, and Louis Wilkinson. The correspondence is arranged in alphabetical order by author of the letters. In addition to letters, there are also articles and clippings, photographs, poems, and reviews.

Gift of Frank K. Bjornsgaard, 1983.
