Describes the complicated political intrigues of the cardinals during the long conclave after the death of Pope Alexander VIII, who died on February 1, 1691. The conclave lasted five and a half months and ended in the election of Cardinal Antonio Pignatelli (Pope Innocent XII, 1691-1700).
