Red lacquered cloth on top of which is over painted with gold and silver paint; text is painted with black enamel; vertical margins marked with illuminated gold border having pictures of apsaras (celestial beings) or other celestial beings as well as with other celestial inspired designs; the spaces between the lines of text are also illuminated with celestial inspired designs.
Two wooden covers with beveled edges; painted with red lacquer over which are painted gold celestial designs including three apsaras (celestial beings) on each board. There is a woven strap with turquoise and tan colored threat along with Burmese text, used to securely wrap and bind the manuscript, 4 x 275 cm. - Penn Provenance:
