Treatise with references throughout to the large group of fold-out technical drawings that follow the text. Most of the machines are simple machines, such as levers, inclined planes, pulleys, wheels, and screws, but the last part of the manuscript is devoted to fluid dynamics.

Layout: Text pages written in 18 long lines, with items of numbered lists sometimes marked in left margins.
Script: Written in cursive script.
Decoration: 27 plates of colored technical drawings that fold out to the right of blank paper the width of the manuscript, so as to be entirely visible alongside the text pages.
Binding: Original calf, gilt spine with title Traite de mecan., ribbon marker.
