Text references a deity who is a hybrid of the Sun and Śiva named Mārttaṇḍa Bhairava. Work is purported to be a part of the Kṣetrakāṇḍa of the Brahmāṇḍapurāṇa, no standard editions of that text include it; thought to have been composed by Deśastha Brahmans of Maharashtra; colophon is in Sanskrit and Marathi.

Manscript was written in the town of Jejūrī (f. 145v), in the district of Pune, Maharashtra state, likely at the temple dedicated to the deity Mārttaṇḍa Bhairava there, named at the end of the text.
