Summary:
Collection of documents covering the history of the Morso family from the late 14th century to the first half of the 19th century (mostly concentrated in the 17th and 18th century). Most of the items consist of family records (including baptism, guardianship, marriage, and death certificates), but inventories (both of real and personal property, aften accompanied by accounts), wills, and records of dowries are also present, and are often very detailed. The very large aristocratic family had branches in Sicily and Naples, and many members held public offices (including tax collection) or were actively involved in the religious life of their cities, and a number of documents contain information about such matters. They also received grants and privileges by the Spanish crown, and these are also described. Moreover, the Morso had strong ties with other noble Sicilian families, such as the Valguarnera, the Alliata, the Naselli, and the Aragon, and others, mostly through marriage. Various stamps, perhaps indicating the payment of the customary governmental stamp tax to issue official documents, appear on numerous items; they are the same as or similar to stamps on other documents in the Villafiorita Ducal Records.
