Summary:

First section of the popular tenth book of the Bhāgavatapurāṇa containing stories about the childhood and youth of the Hindu deity Kṛṣṇa, his slaying of various demons as well as his interaction with the cowherd girls (gopīs). Text considers Kṛṣṇa an incarnation of Viṣṇu and makes efforts to articulate Kṛṣṇa's connection to the divine godhead and identifying him as the Bhagavat or Lord, a common name for Viṣṇu in medieval Vaiṣṇava cults. Doctrine of text is central for the Hindu worship of Viṣṇu. The manuscript includes the commentary by Śrīdharasvāmin.
