Summary:
Account book of an unnamed merchant from Chailane (or Cheylane) and Murat in the Department of Cantal with short entries documenting amounts owed to the owner of the manuscript either as debts or for goods purchased. The most common items sold are wheat, rye, oats, and barley; the names of debtors, due dates of payments, sums owed, and weights of goods sold are indicated in the body of each entry. Most entries are dated and include acknowledgments of the receipt of payment in the left margins; there are numbers in the right margins. Many of the entries are crossed out. The dates of entries range from 1776 to 1814, with the most extensive records for the period 1777-1782. However, the entries are not in chronological order and many of the entries appear crossed out. In some instances, it appears that entries have been made out of chronological order below the original text.
