Biography/History:

Graduate of the College of Philadelphia (A.B., 1765; A.M., 1767); ordained in the Church of England, 1772; consecrated as the first bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 1787; trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, 1774-1836.

Summary:

Drafts of two sermons on Job 21.15, with cancellations, insertions, and Biblical references and other notes added in red ink. A contemporary paper cover bound in at the beginning of the first sermon had the title Of prayer from Job 21.15, Vth Sermon, in black ink but was changed in red ink to Sermon XCIX, Of prayer (First sermon).
