Summary:
A work in two sections: first an alphabetical list of pueblos for each of the geographical regions listed in the title, with their languages noted (ff. [iv] verso-36r); then the beginning of an incomplete second section, which consists of a list of the pueblos of San Salvador [i.e., El Salvador] arranged by department and district, with population numbers (36v-42r). In addition, the leaf count includes two loose items follow the title page: a rough draft of the title page and a printed title page for E. George Squier's List of books, pamphlets ... (1876).

Pagination: Paper, 48; [vi], 44; page numbers in ink, upper right recto.
Layout: In the first section, written in 29 lines on recto, with pueblo and department names in black ink and language notes in red or blue ink or pencil, and additional notes in a smaller hand on the facing verso; in the second section, written in 46-47 lines on recto, with additional notes in a smaller hand on the facing verso.
Script: Written in the hand of C. Hermann Berendt.
Binding: Late 19th-century quarter leather, in very poor condition; leather of spine has disintegrated, with covers and the first two gatherings detached; the essentially disbound manuscript is shelved flat.
Origin: Begun in New York in 1868 (pencil note on title page) and probably added to in later years.
