Summary:

Chevreau's heavily corrected and annotated copy of the published edition (Paris: Florentin & Pierre Delaulne, 1697, 1700) of Chevræana, a collection of short prose pieces on classical literature and history, Judaism and Christianity, French literature, and European history. Also includes some poems. Many full pages of notes have been bound together with the printed pages.

Pagination: Paper; pagination for the printed pages is V.1: [v, 1], 2-420, [xxvi]; V.2: [ii, 1], 2-437. Most of the printed pages are from a large paper copy, with a few leaves from another copy inserted. Pages of notes are frequently numbered by the author as following the printed page preceding them; many smaller notes also bound in.
Decoration: Vignettes scattered throughout the printed pages; etching of a portrait of Chevreau by Jean or Jean-Louis Petitot, v. 1, f. 2v; 19th-century bookplate bearing a portrait of a woman bound in the newer pages associated with the current binding at the beginning of v. 1, with the same monogram that is stamped on v. 1, f. 3r, and v. 2, f. 1r.
Binding: 19th-century full, ornamented gilt morocco by Salvatore David from the ownership of Gustave Mouravit; in each volume, the border at the bottom of the inner front cover says "S. David" and at the bottom of the inner back cover "Domont."
Origin: Printed pages published in Paris, annotated circa 1700.
