Summary:

Rough draft of a Spanish-Huastec dictionary containing approximately 2,750 words, compiled on a variety of types and sizes of paper with numerous corrections in black and red ink, probably intended as a partner to the 18th-century Huastec-Spanish dictionary of Carlos de Tapia Zenteno, which Berendt copied in New York in 1867. The dictionary entries (p. 1-84), based on the work of Tapia Zenteno, are followed by pages containing numerous notes both written and pasted in, including larger, folded documents. Notable items include Lista de algunas voces del idioma castellano traducidad al huasteco, signed Marcelo Alejandre, dated 1872 (p. 87-90); Nombres de pueblos huastecos (p. 93- 96); a letter from Marcelo Alejandre, dated 1872, sent to Berendt in New York (p. 109-114); Additional memoranda by D. G. Brinton (p. 117-121); and Mapa de la huaxteca por C. H. B., 1867 (p. 125).
