Overview and metadata sections

This volume contains a partial English translation of Mīr Amman Dihlavī's Bāg̲h̲ o bahār, Tale of Four Durwesh. There are 103 numbered pages with the following divisions: Introduction, Preface by the author, the story of the four dervishes, adventure of the first dervish, and the story of the second dervish. The Introduction explains the history of the translation. Eight small sketches in black ink illustrate some scenes. The translator is unidentified, but most likely a British soldier. Written on the inside front cover in pencil is: "Commenced 16 Sept. 1847, by A. I. (unreadable), 3d Regt. L.I." and on the fourth page from the end of the volume written in ink horizontally is "3d L. I., G Company, Orderly Havildar Mahommed Saib. General number 95." After page 103 the remainder of the volume is blank except for the last four leaves. One page has a list of words in English paired with the translation of the words in Urdu.
