Overview and metadata sections

The White family were a Canadian-American family who settled in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles in the early 20th century. Frank White (c. 1876-?), the son of an English father and American mother, was an osteopathic physician who emigrated from Canada in 1905. He married Mary L. Springer who was also born in Canada, to Canadian parents. Their daughter, Doris White, was born in Redondo Beach on September 22, 1915, and was educated at the Kansas City National Training School, which trained missionaries. In 1925, the family took a trip through Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, which Frank White documented through annotated photographs. Doris White later documented her own travels in California and Mexico in the 1940s, before marrying Richard Ischinger (1923-1998) on December 21, 1948.

This collection consists of scrapbooks, photo albums, and loose photographs documenting the life and travels of the White family during the first half of the 20th century. It contains a "memory book" documenting the birth, childhood, early education, and marriage of Doris White, daughter of Frank and Mary White; loose photographs of the family's 1925 vacation through Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, carefully annotated by the father, Frank White; a photo album detailing Doris White's education at the Kansas City National Training School, which trained missionaries, as well as her trips back to California, in the late 1930s and early 1940s; and a photo album of Doris' trip to Mexico in 1944-1945.
