Overview and metadata sections

The author of these notebooks is unknown, and there is no clear link between the contents of these notebooks and any published work. However, it appears that these notebooks were used in the creation in a more finished draft of Studies in the Epistles of St. John.

The Epistles of St. John are three Catholic Epistles, appearing in the New Testament. The first, written like a sermon, is intended to help strengthen peoples' faith in Jesus and explain why the Son of God is subject to a mortal's painful death. The second is written as a letter from the apostle to an unnamed lady whom he loves and her children. In this letter, John warns against opening one's home to false teachers and to always practice truth. The third is also written as a letter to his good friend named Gaius. This letter discusses a man named Diotrephes whom Gaius excommunicated from the church. It further explains that Diotrephes went on to create an anti-missionary sentiment in an effort to get the church to stop receiving missionaries.

This collection contains two notebooks filled with a draft of work on the studies of the Epistles of St. John. The first book is titled "The Epistles" and the second is titled "Studies in the Epistles of St. John." Every page in these two notebooks is either ex-ed out or has every line crossed out; therefore, it is possible that the text or ideas were transferred to a more complete version of the manuscript.
