Overview and metadata sections
Henrietta Pfaelzer was born in Philadelphia in 1878, the daughter of Morris and Sophia Pfaelzer. According to David M. Dorsen, she was socially prominent and came from a wealthy and established Philadelphia family. She was a member of the Young Women's Union of Philadelphia. In 1906, she married Horace Stern (1878-1968) who was an 1899 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a 1902 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. In addition to a long and successful legal career, Stern served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania from 1952 to 1956. They had one daughter, Sophia (1908-1985) who married Henry Friendly. They appear to have been active in Philadelphia's Jewish Community. Henrietta Pfaelzer Stern died in 1974.
