Overview and metadata sections

Eliza Murray Threipland was the second of four children born to Sir Patrick Murray Threipland, 4th Baronet (1762-1837) and Lady Jessy Murray Threipland (d. 1855), who married in 1792. The Threipland family occupied Fingask Castle in Perthshire, Scotland. Eliza's three siblings were Jessie (circa 1796-1871), Catherine (circa 1799-), and Sir Patrick Murray Threipland, 5th Baronet (1800-1882). Eliza's father served as Deputy Lieutenant for Perthshire and Caithness. According to one citation Eliza was manager of the stables at Fingask Castle.

Scrapbook by Eliza Murray Threipland spanning approximately from 1812 to 1833. Handwritten on the front cover is the title "Drawing room scrap book album." Inscribed on the inside front cover is "Eliza Threipland, Les souvenirs des amis." The volume is comprised of copied writings, original drawings and sketches in pencil, pen, and colored inks and paint by Eliza, her sisters, and many friends of the Campbell family of Islay, Scotland. A majority of the images are pasted or mounted in the volume. Subjects of the drawings and printed images include landscapes, animals, portraits, and flora. Items by Eliza's sisters include a small floral embroidery by Catherine and a rebus puzzle by Jessie. There are copied humorous prose, some poems, quotations, lists, an elegy, and an improbable dinner menu. Spanning three leaves is "Epilogue to Barbarossa by M. G. Lewis spoken by Lady Charlotte Campbell at (?) 1798." An elaborate pressed flower arrangement with the caption "Souvenir du Rigi" is pasted on one leaf. Colored printed illustrations cut out from other sources are also contained in the volume. Some of the contributors to the volume include drawings by Mary (Campbell) Ruthven, Eliza Maria (Campbell) Gordon Cumming (d. 1842), John George Campbell (1800-1830), Sir Charles Jenkinson, 10th Baronet (1779-1855), and Eugenie Campbell. There are three items laid in the volume: a letter to Mrs. Threipland from R. Sandilands, Carter House; a two-page verse with the signature Campbell on the verso of the second leaf; and a twentieth-century note regarding the value of the scrapbook signed M. Z.
