Worn marbled paper, covered volume comprised of recipes written by a young woman in the United States. "Miss Addie F. [illegible], July 1877" is written in faded purple ink on the first leaf. The volume chiefly consists of culinary recipes for cakes, caramels, creams, dressings, eggs, fish, jellies, meat, muffins, oysters, pickles, pies, and puddings. There is one recipe for elderberry wine. There are a few medicinal remedies for cold, cough, headache, nausea, and pneumonia. There are some recipes and instructions for cleaning such as removing mildew, spots, and stains; making paint for floors and whitening walls. Also included are directions for how to wash wool. The beginning of the volume is in written in purple ink that is faded in some spots. The remainder of the volume is in pencil. Six leaves have been laid in the volume. Two of the leaves have handwritten recipes in a different hand. There are two clippings. One item is from the Farm Journal, November 1918 with instructions for curing meat. A printed four-page informational newsletter by the Cooperative Extension Work in Agriculture and Home Economics dated 1915 provides directions for preserving fruits and vegetables "for use in the Boys' and Girls' Home Canning Club."
