Abstract:

A leather bound volume comprising pharmaceutical and medicinal recipes written in Latin probably by a pharmacist or physician in England between the years 1761 to 1799.

A leather bound volume with "Collectanea" stamped on the spine and "I : Beli" stamped on the cover comprising pharmaceutical and medicinal recipes written in Latin. The volume was probably written by a pharmacist or physician in England spanning the years from approximately 1761 to 1799. The book contains a myriad of recipes and formulas including drops, elixirs, ointments, pills, plasters, powders, and syrups utilizing ingredients of herbs, metals, and opium to treat diseases and ailments. The recipes provide remedies and treatments for arthritis, bladder ailments, colic, dysentery, eye ailments, fevers, gonorrhea, heart ailments, inflammation, scurvy, stomach ailments, and worms. In addition to the recipes are descriptive treatment techniques and instructions. Some recipes have notes updating formulas and treatments. At the beginning and end of the volume are a few quotations and maxims. There are four leaves of recipes laid in the volume one bearing the date 1761 under a notation. A portion of the volume is blank.
