Abstract:

Eileen Sullivan-Marx is Dean of the New York University School of Nursing. She is recognized as a community health leader and primary care nurse practitioner. Her research and teaching focuses on policy and health systems, care of frail older adults in the local and global community, models of care and payment policy, reimbursement for advanced practice nurses, and business and economic issues in health care delivery.

Eileen Sullivan-Marx is the Dean of the New York University School of Nursing. She is a nationally recognized leader in the care of older adults, sustaining models of care using advanced practice nurses locally and globally, and developing health policy in community-based, long- term care settings. Her distinguished body of research has focused on improving functional outcomes of older adults, studying factors that promote and prevent exercise in the community for frail older adults.

Before coming to NYU, Sullivan-Marx was Professor of Scholarly Practice, Associate Dean for Practice & Community Affairs and Shearer Endowed Term Chair for Healthy Community Practices at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing. At Penn, Dean Sullivan-Marx led and integrated the School of Nursing's award winning practice and community mission that included the school’s Program of All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE), its Living Independently For Elders (LIFE) program, the Healthy in Philadelphia Initiative, Penn Nursing Consultation Service, the Penn Council of Nurses, and the Center for Professional Development with its research and educational enterprises. She is a Distinguished Alumni of the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Most recently, Dr. Sullivan-Marx was an American Political Science Congressional Fellow and Senior Advisor to the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The first part of this collection contains papers concerning nursing payment and reimbursement. A later accretion consists of records from a study conducted by Sullivan-Marx, comparing the relative values of nurse practitioner & family physicians primary care coding. These records address how nurse practioners and family physicians established value for primary care codes using the resource based relative value scale method of USHCFA & AMA. Included are drafts of reports and papers concerning the findings.
