The Directory is a tribute to the memory of Helen Mar Rankin who served as Secretary of the Special Libraries Council of Philadelphia and Vicinity from 1919-1944. After her retirement, The Chapter honored her long and faithful service by establishing the Helen Mar Rankin Publication Fund.
From the publication of the first Directory in 1947 to the last print edition in 1999 the Rankin Fund has provided working capital for the preparation of the Directory. In order to provide the most current information without charge, the Philadelphia Chapter of SLA is departing from tradition to produce the first web-based Directory. We hope Helen Mar Rankin would approve.
